Is an HSA right for me?*

The rates for the HSA PPO are the least expensive of any plan offered this year. However, that should not be the reason that you select this plan. Because of the deductible and the coinsurance, some individuals who have frequent expenses may find this plan more expensive in the long-term.

The following fictional scenarios present potential situations that will help you in your decision-making process. Please consider this choice carefully. The HSA has a great number of benefits to offer an individual, but an HSA is not right for everyone.

Meet Susan, a 30-year-old science teacher. She is married with two children, ages 6 and 9. Susan and her husband don't go to the doctor much, and she only takes the kids when they have the flu or some other serious illness.

Joe is a 56-year-old high school guidance counselor. Joe's wife is 53, and his children are grown with families of their own. Joe and his wife are in good health, and they visit the doctor for routine physicals and the occasional cold or flu. However, they are concerned that as they get older, they may experience some unexpected health issues.

Randy is a 26-year-old elementary school teacher. He is single with no children. Randy is fairly healthy and visits the doctor only when absolutely necessary.

Tom is a 40-year-old math teacher and basketball coach. He is married with three children, ages 2, 6, and 8. Tom and his wife always take the kids to the doctor at the first sign that they may be sick.
